Synthesis of N-Doped TiO2 for Efficient Photocatalytic Degradation of Atmospheric NOx

Titanium oxide (TiO2) is a potential photocatalyst for removing toxic NOx from the atmosphere. Its practical application is, however, significantly limited by its low absorption into visible light and high degree of charge recombination. The overall photocatalytic activity TiO2 remains too since it can utilize only about 4–5% solar energy. Nitrogen doping lattice takes advantage utilizing wide range radiation increasing capability towards region. In this work, N-doped TiO2, referred to as TC, was synthesized simple co-precipitation tri-thiocyanuric acid (TCA) with P25 followed heat treatment at 550 degrees C. resulting nitrogen increased visible-light enhanced separation/transfer photo-excited carriers capturing holes reduced titanium ions. As result, TC samples exhibited excellent activities 59% 51% in NO oxidation under UV irradiation, which optimum mass ratio TCA found be 10.
